We think we'll save the $8,500...

September 27th, 2011 at 03:57 pm

DH told me this morning that after some thought, he would rather us save the $8,500 that it would cost to hire professional painters to do the outside of the house and for us to try to do it ourselves. He thinks after some research, that we should be able to attempt this... and if all else fails, we may end up using the pro but at least we'll give it the ol' college try.

Hopefully you are not afraid of heights! I am so I'd rather pay it than get on a ladder!

Personally, I'd rent scaffolding. When we painted our house we rented scaffolding at $35 a day. Well worth it since you aren't standing on a thin ladder slat all day (very hard on the feet) and you have both hands free. Also rollers (with long handle attachment) are better than brushes for the main work and brushes are better than rollers for trim.

I agree with LuckyRobin, having scaffolding not only is safer but it also leads to a faster job at a reasonable cost. If you have the insurance of some good friends to help out it can actually really go quickly! Good luck...
