No Orlando, Yes Pigeon Forge

March 3rd, 2008 at 01:30 pm

In a previous post, I mentioned that I could go to Orlando for a conference and if I did go, I would take the family as well.... after talking about it many times, we finally decided to nix the idea. I just couldn't pull the kids out of school for a week justifiably and I would not be able to spend 100% of my time with them. So, instead, we are heading to Pigeon Forge, TN - Woo Hoo, right? I know it doesn't sound too exciting, but around here, everyone loves going there and since we've never been, why not? It's just about 3 hours away so it's a lot closer than FL. Smile We'll visit Dollywood, drive up to Ripley's Aquarium in Gatlinburg, and check out WonderWorks (a hands-on museum for kids). I think the kids will have a blast. And, we are planning to go during the week of Spring Break so that we don't have to pull the kids out of school. All in all, I think it's going to work out just fine. So, if anyone has ever been to Pigeon Forge, give me some feedback on where to stay, eat, and play. We need to go ahead and make our plans since it's only 3 weeks away!

I've never been to Pigeon Forge, but I've heard good things about it. I think you made a wise decision.

Pigeon Forge is a great place. We stayed close to the bus station and Old Mill Restaurant.. They have a great watermill restaurant there. I think it's called Old Mill. The food is great. We also took the bus to Gaitlinburg for the day. Gaitlinburg has a minature golf course called Hillbilly Golf. I have never had so much fun with minature golf. They take you up to the top of the mountain and you have to golf your way down. It's beautiful and shady. You'll enjoy it. Have fun.

The kids have begged us to take them mini-golfing so I'll be sure to check that one out. Thanks for the info. Smile

I was just going to say the same as Aleta! We've been a couple of times when the kiddoes were smaller and we all enjoyed the Hillbilly Golf course!

Wonderworks is wonderful, be prepared to spend all day there. They will stamp your hand so you can leave and come back. A lot of activies to do. Buy the ripley pass it will get you into 4 ripley places. Have fun.

Pigeon Forge is the birth place of Dolly Parton which is why you have Dollywood there. Pigeon Forge is unique because it's almost like an amusement park town. There is alot things for kids to do. There are alot of rides off the main street. They have outlet shops. You see a lot of little wedding chapel churches for elopers or just small weddings. We stayed right across the street from one of them. It's fun to watch and stays pretty busy as well. The people are very friendly.

My first visit there was at a convention in Knoxville and we stayed at a motel with other conventioniers in Pigeon Forge. It is definitely a unique place to go to.
